A pedestrian has been killed after being hit by a train at Cologne central station in Germany. The man, who has not yet been named, was struck by the train at around 6:30am on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save the man. The train station was closed for several hours while police investigated the incident.
Deutsche Bahn, the German railway operator, said that the train involved was a regional service from Cologne to Aachen. The train was carrying around 250 passengers at the time of the incident.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation. However, police believe that the man may have been trying to cross the tracks when he was struck by the train.
The death of the man is the latest in a series of fatal accidents at Cologne central station. In 2017, a woman was killed after being hit by a train at the station. In 2016, a man was killed after falling from a platform at the station.
Cologne central station is one of the busiest train stations in Germany. It is used by around 300,000 passengers every day.
