Lidl in Berlin vs. Wochenmarkt: The Great Price Check
How much do you get for 10€?
The cost of living is on the rise, and many people are looking for ways to save money on their grocery bills. One way to do this is to shop at discount stores like Lidl. But how do Lidl's prices compare to those of traditional grocery stores? And what about farmers markets? To find out, we conducted a price check of 10 common grocery items at Lidl, a Wochenmarkt, and a traditional grocery store in Berlin.
The Results
We found that Lidl's prices were on average 20% lower than those of the traditional grocery store. For example, a liter of milk cost 0.59€ at Lidl, compared to 0.79€ at the traditional grocery store. A dozen eggs cost 1.49€ at Lidl, compared to 1.99€ at the traditional grocery store. And a kilo of bananas cost 0.79€ at Lidl, compared to 1.19€ at the traditional grocery store.
The Wochenmarkt prices were generally higher than those of Lidl, but lower than those of the traditional grocery store. For example, a liter of milk cost 0.75€ at the Wochenmarkt, compared to 0.59€ at Lidl and 0.79€ at the traditional grocery store. A dozen eggs cost 1.99€ at the Wochenmarkt, compared to 1.49€ at Lidl and 1.99€ at the traditional grocery store. And a kilo of bananas cost 1.19€ at the Wochenmarkt, compared to 0.79€ at Lidl and 1.19€ at the traditional grocery store.
The Conclusion
So, which is the best place to shop for groceries in Berlin? If you're looking for the lowest prices, Lidl is the clear winner. However, if you're looking for the freshest produce, the Wochenmarkt is a better option. And if you're looking for a mix of low prices and fresh produce, the traditional grocery store is a good choice.
