Anthony Firkser News: Released by Jets
Former Titans tight end joins free agency
Firkser played four seasons in Tennessee
The New York Jets have released tight end Anthony Firkser, the team announced Tuesday. Firkser signed a one-year deal with the Jets in March after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans.
Firkser started 10 games for the Jets in 2022, catching 24 passes for 269 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 17 yards on three carries.
The Jets are expected to address the tight end position in the upcoming NFL Draft. They have the No. 13 overall pick and are expected to target a pass-catching tight end early in the draft.
Firkser's release comes as no surprise. He was the Jets' No. 3 tight end behind Tyler Conklin and C.J. Uzomah. Firkser is now a free agent and is expected to generate interest from several teams.
Firkser's career
Firkser was a seventh-round pick by the Titans in the 2018 NFL Draft. He quickly became a valuable contributor, catching 39 passes for 439 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season.
Firkser's production declined in 2019 and 2020, but he bounced back in 2021, catching 38 passes for 444 yards and three touchdowns.
In 2022, Firkser played in 16 games for the Jets but started only 10. He caught 24 passes for 269 yards and one touchdown.
What's next for Firkser?
Firkser is now a free agent and is expected to receive interest from several teams. He is a versatile tight end who can line up in the slot or as an inline blocker.
Firkser is also a willing blocker and is a good receiver out of the backfield. He is a valuable asset to any team and should be able to find a new home quickly.
