Sophomore quarterback Sean Svoboda is confident he can lead the Wyoming Cowboys to success in 2023.

Svoboda, who backed up Andrew Peasley last season, is expected to take over as the starter this year. Peasley transferred to Utah in December, leaving Svoboda as the clear-cut No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart.

Svoboda, a 6-foot-4, 220-pounder from Arlington, Texas, played in four games last season, completing 27 of 48 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Svoboda said he is excited about the opportunity to lead the Cowboys.

"I'm ready to take the next step in my career," Svoboda said. "I've learned a lot from Andrew, and I'm confident in my abilities."

Wyoming coach Craig Bohl said he is confident in Svoboda, too.

"Sean is a talented quarterback with a lot of potential," Bohl said. "He's worked hard in the offseason, and I'm excited to see what he can do this season."

The Cowboys will open the season on Sept. 2 at home against Northern Colorado.

Svoboda's confidence is based on several factors:

Svoboda knows he has big shoes to fill, but he is confident he can lead the Cowboys to success.

"I'm not going to try to be Andrew," Svoboda said. "I'm going to be myself and lead this team in my own way."

The Cowboys are counting on Svoboda to be their leader in 2023. He is confident he can deliver.
