Major operation in Frankenberg due to fire in district hospital
Fire brigade, rescue service and police on duty
Frankenberg – On Monday afternoon, a fire broke out shortly after 2 p.m. in the basement of the Frankenberg district hospital. As the police announced in the evening, extensive smoke developed in the laundry room and spread to the entire basement and staircase.
Around 120 firefighters in action
Around 120 firefighters from Frankenberg, Edertal, Bromskirchen, Haina, Allendorf and Herzhausen were deployed to fight the fire. 130 rescue workers from Frankenberg, Korbach, Battenberg and Frankenau were on hand with 30 vehicles.
Eight people injured
A total of eight people were injured, three of them seriously. According to the police, all of the injured were hospital employees who were slightly to severely injured by smoke inhalation and burns.
All patients evacuated
All patients had to be evacuated from the main building. Those affected were taken to the Frankenberg hospital chapel. Since the hospital could not be used in the meantime, the patients were gradually transferred to surrounding hospitals.
Cause of the fire still unclear
The cause of the fire is still unclear. The police have started investigations. According to initial estimates, the damage will amount to several hundred thousand euros.
