How to Make the Most of Your Joshua Tree Tour
Plan Your Trip
Before you hit the road, do some research to figure out what you want to see and do. The park is home to a variety of attractions, including hiking trails, rock climbing routes, campgrounds, and scenic drives. Decide what you're most interested in and plan your itinerary accordingly.
Once you know what you want to see, book your accommodations in advance, especially if you're visiting during peak season. The park has a number of campgrounds, but they can fill up quickly. You can also find hotels and vacation rentals in the nearby towns of Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms.
What to Bring
Be sure to pack plenty of water, as there is no water available in the park. You'll also want to wear comfortable shoes and clothing, as you'll be doing a lot of walking. If you're planning on hiking, bring a map and compass or GPS device.

Explore the Park

If you'd rather take a more leisurely approach to exploring the park, you can drive the scenic Park Boulevard. This 26-mile road winds through the heart of the park and offers stunning views of the desert landscape.
Enjoy the Night Sky
Joshua Tree is one of the best places in the world to stargaze. The park has very little light pollution, so the stars are incredibly clear and bright. If you're visiting during the summer, be sure to check out the ranger-led astronomy programs.
Even if you're not visiting during the summer, you can still enjoy the night sky by simply lying down on a blanket and looking up. You'll be amazed at how many stars you can see.
Leave No Trace
When you're visiting Joshua Tree, be sure to follow the principles of Leave No Trace. This means packing out everything you pack in, staying on designated trails, and not disturbing the plants or animals.
