Fireman Ed: A True American Hero
Introduction
Ed Muscare is perhaps one of the most famous fire fighters in the NFL today. But before he was a member of the New York Jets, Ed was a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department. He was one of the thousands of firefighters deployed to the World Trade Center on the fateful day of September 11, 2001.
A Firefighter First
Ed Muscare began his FDNY career in 1998. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a Lieutenant in just years. Muscare was known for his bravery and dedication to his job. He was also a popular figure in his community, and was often seen volunteering his time to help others.
9/11
On September 11, 2001, Muscare was one of the first firefighters to arrive at the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks. He spent hours searching for survivors in the rubble of the collapsed towers. Muscare's actions that day earned him the nickname "Fireman Ed." He was later awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery.
Post-9/11
After 9/11, Muscare continued to serve with the FDNY. He also became a motivational speaker, sharing his story of survival and heroism with audiences around the world. In 2007 he was hired as a defensive end by the New York Jets. He played with the team for two seasons before retiring in 2009.
