Aletshausen – A serious accident occurred at a level crossing in Aletshausen (Günzburg district) on Friday evening. A car was hit by a train and the 18-year-old driver was seriously injured. According to the police, the accident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the Aletshausen-Kötz level crossing on the Günzburg-Mindelheim railway line.
Car dragged along by train
The 18-year-old from the Günzburg district was driving his car towards Kötz. At the level crossing, he was hit by a regional train traveling in the direction of Günzburg. The impact was so severe that the car was dragged along by the train for about 100 meters. The 18-year-old driver was seriously injured and had to be rescued from the wreckage by the fire brigade. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Level crossing was closed
The train driver and the approximately 20 passengers on the train were not injured. The level crossing was closed for several hours for the rescue work and the accident investigation. The train traffic on the line between Günzburg and Mindelheim was interrupted. According to the police, the damage to the car and the train is estimated to be around 100,000 euros.
